Here’s a fun and tangy twist on a classic treat: Zesty Lemonade Puppy Chow (a.k.a. muddy buddies)! This sweet, citrusy snack is crunchy, lemony, and totally addictive—perfect for parties, lunchboxes, or summer snacking.

🍋🐾 Zesty Lemonade Puppy Chow

Yield: ~6 cups | Prep Time: 10 minutes | No baking required

🛒 Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal (or similar)
  • 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips (or vanilla melting wafers)
  • 1 ½ tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice (fresh for best flavor)
  • 1–2 drops yellow food coloring (optional, for a sunny look)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • Optional: 1 tbsp lemonade mix powder (like Country Time) for extra tang

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Melt the Coating:
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
Stir in lemon juice, zest, and food coloring (if using).
  2. Coat the Cereal:
Place cereal in a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted lemon mixture over the cereal and gently stir until evenly coated.
  3. Add Powdered Sugar:
Pour the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag (or a bowl with a lid).
Add powdered sugar (and lemonade mix powder if using). Seal and shake well until fully coated.
  4. Cool & Serve:
Spread out the puppy chow on a baking sheet to cool and dry for 10–15 minutes. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

📝 Tips & Variations

  • Add freeze-dried strawberries or blueberries for a fruity twist.
  • Use lemon extract for extra punch (just a few drops).
  • Great for summer parties, baby showers, or as a DIY snack gift.
