Here’s a classic Wonton Soup recipe—warm, savory, and filled with delicate dumplings in a flavorful broth. It’s easier to make at home than you might think!

🥟 Homemade Wonton Soup

🧾 Ingredients:

For the Wontons:

  • 1/2 lb ground pork (or ground chicken/shrimp)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper (or black pepper)
  • 20–30 wonton wrappers

For the Broth:

  • 6 cups chicken broth (low sodium recommended)
  • 1–2 slices fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Optional: bok choy, spinach, mushrooms, or carrots

Garnish:

  • Green onions, chopped
  • Chili oil or sriracha (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Make the Wonton Filling:

In a bowl, combine ground meat, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onion, sugar, and pepper. Mix well.

2. Assemble the Wontons:

  • Place 1 tsp filling in the center of a wrapper.
  • Moisten edges with water.
  • Fold into a triangle or envelope shape, pressing to seal tightly.
  • Repeat with remaining filling and wrappers.

3. Make the Broth:

  • In a large pot, combine chicken broth, ginger slices, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  • Bring to a simmer.
  • Add optional veggies and simmer until just tender (5–7 mins).

4. Cook the Wontons:

  • Bring a separate pot of water to a boil.
  • Gently drop in wontons (8–10 at a time); cook 4–5 minutes, until they float and filling is cooked through.
  • Transfer with a slotted spoon into serving bowls.

5. Assemble the Soup:

  • Pour hot broth and vegetables over wontons in each bowl.
  • Garnish with green onions, cilantro, and chili oil if desired.

🍽️ Tips:

  • Wontons freeze well! Freeze on a tray, then store in a zip-top bag for later use.
  • Try using shrimp & pork mix for a more traditional flavor.
