Strawberry Crunch Donuts

Posted on August 29, 2025

Here’s a deliciously fun recipe for Strawberry Crunch Donuts — soft baked (or fried) donuts topped with a creamy strawberry glaze and that irresistible crunchy strawberry shortcake crumble, just like the ice cream bars!

🍓🍩 Strawberry Crunch Donuts

Soft, fruity, and topped with a nostalgic crunch!

✅ Ingredients

For the Donuts (Baked):

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup buttermilk (or ½ cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Prefer fried donuts? You can use plain yeast donuts or cake donuts as your base!

For the Strawberry Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp milk
  • 1–2 tbsp strawberry jam or puree
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: pink or red food coloring for deeper color

For the Strawberry Crunch Topping:

  • 6 Golden Oreos (or vanilla sandwich cookies)
  • 2 tbsp freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1 tbsp melted butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Donuts (if baking):

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. In one bowl, whisk dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, soda, salt, sugar.
  3. In another bowl, mix egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients just until mixed.
  5. Spoon or pipe batter into the donut pan, filling ¾ full.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool completely.

Or skip this and use store-bought or pre-made donuts if you’re in a hurry.

2. Make the Glaze:

  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, jam, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Adjust thickness with more milk or sugar if needed.

3. Make the Strawberry Crunch:

  1. Pulse Oreos and freeze-dried strawberries in a food processor until crumbly.
  2. Stir in melted butter until mixture resembles a crunchy topping.

4. Assemble:

  1. Dip the tops of cooled donuts in the strawberry glaze.
  2. Immediately sprinkle or press on the strawberry crunch topping.
  3. Let set for 10–15 minutes, or refrigerate to set faster.

🍓 Tips & Variations

  • Use white chocolate glaze instead of strawberry for a different spin.
  • Add a drizzle of condensed milk or cream cheese glaze for extra indulgence.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days — best eaten fresh!
