Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese

Here’s a simple and delicious Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese recipe that lets the flavors meld all day for a rich, hearty sauce. Perfect for busy days!


🍝 Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese

Servings: 6

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 6–8 hours (low) or 3–4 hours (high)


Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or half beef, half pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely diced (optional)
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced (optional)
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Spaghetti, cooked according to package instructions
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Meat (optional but recommended):
    Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat. This step adds extra flavor but you can skip and add raw meat directly to slow cooker.
  2. Add Ingredients to Slow Cooker:
    Transfer browned meat to the slow cooker. Add chopped onion, garlic, carrot, celery, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, broth, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook:
    Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours until sauce thickens and flavors meld.
  4. Adjust Seasoning:
    Taste and adjust salt, pepper, and herbs if needed.
  5. Serve:
    Toss cooked spaghetti with the sauce or serve sauce ladled over spaghetti. Garnish with fresh basil/parsley and Parmesan.

Tips:

  • Add a splash of red wine with the broth for extra depth.
  • For a creamier finish, stir in a little milk or cream before serving.
  • Freeze leftovers in portions for quick meals later.
