Posted on July 1, 2025

Here’s a hearty, cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Casserole recipe—a comfort food twist on the classic sandwich. It’s packed with beef, peppers, onions, and gooey cheese, all baked together in a creamy, satisfying casserole.

🧀 Philly Cheesesteak Casserole

🕒 Prep Time: 15 mins | 🍳 Cook Time: 30 mins | 🍽️ Serves: 4–6

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or thinly sliced steak (like ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 oz (1/2 block) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional for added creaminess)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese (or a mix)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar (for topping)
  • Optional: cooked pasta (about 2 cups), tater tots, or biscuit dough for a full one-dish meal

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 or 9×13 casserole dish, depending on add-ins.
  2. Cook the beef:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (or sliced steak) over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Sauté veggies:
Push the meat to one side and add olive oil. Add onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and garlic. Cook until tender, about 5–7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Make it creamy:
Stir in cream cheese, mayonnaise (if using), and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until everything is creamy and well combined.
  5. Assemble:
Transfer the mixture to your prepared casserole dish. Stir in any optional cooked pasta or layer biscuit dough on top for a full meal.
  6. Add cheese:
Sprinkle with provolone or mozzarella, then cheddar on top.
  7. Bake:
Bake uncovered for 15–20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. If using biscuit dough or tater tots, bake until golden and cooked through (about 25–30 mins).
  8. Serve:
Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Great with a green salad or garlic bread.

Tips & Variations:

  • Keto-friendly? Skip the pasta/tater tots and use just meat, veggies, and cheese.
  • Spicy version: Add diced jalapeños or a few dashes of hot sauce.
  • Make ahead: Assemble up to a day in advance and bake when ready to serve.
