Never boil eggs in water! Just use this trick!

Posted on July 1, 2025

You’ve probably heard for years that boiling eggs in water is the go-to methodโ€”but there’s a better trick that makes peeling way easier and avoids overcooking:

๐Ÿฅš Never Boil Eggs in Water! Use This Steaming Trick Instead

๐Ÿ”ฅ Why steam eggs instead of boiling them?

  • Easier to peel โ€” even for fresh eggs
  • No cracked shells from bouncing in boiling water
  • More consistent yolks with less risk of overcooking

๐Ÿšซ Skip the boiling pot โ€” do this instead:

โœ… The Steaming Method

Youโ€™ll need:

  • A pot with a lid
  • A steamer basket or metal strainer
  • Cold eggs
  • Ice water for cooling

How to do it:

  1. Add 1 inch of water to the pot and bring it to a boil.
  2. Place eggs in a steamer basket or metal strainer.
  3. Set the basket over the boiling water, cover, and steam:
    • 12 minutes for hard-boiled
    • 7โ€“8 minutes for jammy centers
    • 6 minutes for soft-boiled
  4. Immediately transfer eggs to an ice bath for 5โ€“10 minutes.
  5. Peel โ€” the shells should slide off like magic!

๐Ÿ“ Bonus Tips:

  • Use cold eggs straight from the fridge โ€” no need to bring them to room temp.
  • Gently crack and roll the eggs before peeling for best results.
  • Works great for meal prep, deviled eggs, or egg salad.
