GROUND BEEF AND GRAVY OVER MASHED POTATOES

Posted on March 6, 2025

Ground beef and gravy over mashed potatoes is a classic, comforting meal! Here’s a simple recipe you can follow:

Ingredients:

  • For the mashed potatoes:

    • 2 lbs potatoes (like Russets or Yukon Golds), peeled and cubed
    • 4 tbsp butter
    • 1/2 cup milk (or cream for extra richness)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the ground beef and gravy:

    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
    • 2 tbsp flour
    • 1 1/2 cups beef broth (or water + beef bouillon)
    • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • A pinch of dried thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the mashed potatoes:

    • Boil the potatoes in salted water for about 15 minutes, or until they’re fork-tender.
    • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
    • Mash until smooth and creamy. Set aside and keep warm.
  2. Make the ground beef and gravy:

    • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. If you’re using onion and garlic, add them in when the beef is halfway browned.
    • Once the beef is browned and cooked through, sprinkle the flour over it. Stir well to coat.
    • Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for about 5-10 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Serve:

    • Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the ground beef and gravy mixture.
    • Enjoy!

You can also add vegetables like peas or corn to make it even heartier. Would you like to add any specific ingredients or tips?
