Cracker Barrel Meatloaf is a classic comfort food dish known for its tender texture, savory flavor, and hearty taste. If you love Cracker Barrel’s version, here’s a recipe to recreate a similar meatloaf at home!

Cracker Barrel-Inspired Meatloaf

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80% lean for flavor and moisture)
  • 1/2 lb ground pork (for extra tenderness and flavor)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably plain or Italian-style)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (for the glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for the glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (for the glaze)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease a loaf pan.
  2. Prepare the meatloaf mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme. Use your hands or a spoon to mix until everything is evenly combined. Be careful not to overmix, as that can make the meatloaf tough.
  3. Shape the meatloaf: Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it on the prepared baking sheet or into the loaf pan.
  4. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Stir until the ingredients are well blended.
  5. Top the meatloaf with the glaze: Spread the ketchup glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf. You can use a spoon to gently spread it or brush it on with a pastry brush.
  6. Bake the meatloaf: Bake for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). The top should be caramelized and slightly bubbly from the glaze.
  7. Rest before serving: Once baked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps the juices settle and makes it easier to cut.
  8. Serve: Slice the meatloaf and serve with your favorite side dishes like mashed potatoes, green beans, or a simple salad.

Tips:

  • Meat mixture: The combination of beef and pork is key to getting that perfect texture, but if you prefer, you can substitute the ground pork with another type of meat like turkey or chicken.
  • Glaze variation: If you like a spicier glaze, you can add a little bit of hot sauce or chili powder to the ketchup mixture.
  • Make ahead: You can prepare the meatloaf mixture the night before, shape it, and store it in the refrigerator until ready to bake the next day.
