Chocolate Peanut Butter Ooey Gooey Cake

Posted on July 27, 2025

Here’s a decadent, crowd-pleasing recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Ooey Gooey Cake — a rich layered dessert with a fudgy chocolate base and a gooey peanut butter cream cheese topping. It’s the kind of dessert that makes people ask for seconds (and the recipe!).

🍫🥜 Chocolate Peanut Butter Ooey Gooey Cake

🧁 Ingredients:

For the Bottom Layer (Cake Base):

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (devil’s food or fudge preferred)
  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Ooey Gooey Topping:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 (16 oz) box powdered sugar (about 3½ cups)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prep the Pan & Oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Make the Chocolate Base

  • In a large bowl, combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg.
  • Stir until a thick dough forms.
  • Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

3. Make the Gooey Peanut Butter Topping

  • In a new bowl, beat softened cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth.
  • Add eggs, vanilla, and melted butter. Beat until combined.
  • Slowly mix in powdered sugar until creamy and thick.

4. Assemble & Bake

  • Pour the peanut butter topping over the chocolate base and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes. The edges should be set, but the center will still jiggle slightly (that’s the gooey part!).
  • Do not overbake — it will firm up as it cools.

5. Cool & Serve

  • Let cool at least 30 minutes before slicing. Best served warm or at room temp.

🍽️ Optional Toppings:

  • Drizzle with melted chocolate or caramel sauce
  • Sprinkle with chopped Reese’s, peanuts, or mini chocolate chips
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
