🧀 Cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Bread
🍞 Ingredients:
- 1 large French baguette or Italian loaf (about 12–16 inches)
- 1 lb ribeye steak or sirloin, thinly sliced*
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
- ½ cup cheese sauce or whiz-style cheese (optional but ultra cheesy)
- Optional: hot sauce, banana peppers, or jalapeños for extra kick
*Tip: For easy slicing, partially freeze the steak for 30 minutes before cutting it very thin against the grain.
🔥 Instructions:
1. Prep the Bread:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut a “canoe” into the top of the bread (don’t cut all the way through). Hollow it out slightly to make space for the filling.
- Place the bread on a baking tray lined with foil.
2. Cook the Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sauté onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until softened (4–5 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add sliced steak. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes until just browned. Add veggies back in. Stir to combine.
3. Assemble:
- Spoon a bit of cheese sauce (if using) into the bottom of the hollowed bread.
- Pile the steak-veggie mix into the loaf.
- Top with shredded provolone or mozzarella.
- Drizzle extra cheese sauce on top if you want it gooey and rich.
4. Bake:
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- For extra crispiness, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end — keep an eye on it!
5. Slice & Serve:
- Let cool for a couple of minutes.
- Slice into thick pieces and serve hot.
🧄 Optional Add-Ons:
- Garlic butter the inside of the bread before filling for extra flavor.
- Add banana peppers or sautéed jalapeños for heat.
- Serve with a side of au jus, horseradish mayo, or sriracha mayo.
