Posted on May 31, 2025

Here’s a detailed recipe for a rich and hearty Cheesy Mushroom Beef dish creamy, savory, and full of flavor. It works beautifully as a main course, either over rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, or even stuffed in a sandwich.

Cheesy Mushroom Beef

✅ Servings: 4

⏱️ Total Time: 40 minutes

📝 Ingredients:

For the Beef & Mushroom Base:

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef (or thinly sliced beef strips)

  • 1 tbsp oil (olive or vegetable)

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 3–4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 250g (8 oz) mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (optional, for umami)

  • 1 tsp paprika (smoked or sweet)

  • Salt & black pepper to taste

For the Cheesy Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk or half-and-half

  • 1 cup (100g) shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)

  • ¼ cup grated parmesan (optional for richness)

  • ½ tsp mustard (Dijon or yellow, optional — enhances flavor)

🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Cook the Beef

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Add ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  3. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce (if using).

  4. Transfer the beef to a bowl and set aside.

Step 2: Sauté Mushrooms & Onions

  1. In the same pan, add a bit more oil or butter.

  2. Sauté chopped onions until translucent (about 3–4 minutes).

  3. Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds.

  4. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they release water and begin to brown (6–8 minutes).

Step 3: Make the Cheese Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan (or push mushrooms to one side of the skillet), melt the butter.

  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.

  4. Cook until thickened (3–5 minutes).

  5. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheese and parmesan. Add mustard if using.

Step 4: Combine

  1. Return cooked beef to the skillet with mushrooms and onions.

  2. Pour the cheese sauce over everything and stir to combine.

  3. Let simmer for a couple of minutes so the flavors meld.

  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
