Here’s a Cheese Steak Hamburger recipe—a mouthwatering fusion of a classic cheesesteak and an all-American hamburger. It combines a juicy beef patty with sautéed onions and peppers, melty cheese, and a toasted bun, giving you the best of both comfort foods.

🍔 What You’ll Get:

  • A juicy burger patty with steak-like flavor
  • Caramelized onions and peppers like a Philly cheesesteak
  • Melted provolone or American cheese
  • Optional creamy cheese sauce
  • All served on a toasted bun

🛒 Ingredients (Makes 4 burgers)

For the Patties:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 blend is ideal)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp steak seasoning or Montreal seasoning (or: ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper, ¼ tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for pan)

For the Cheese Steak Toppings:

  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced thin
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 red bell pepper (optional, for sweetness and color)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone, American, or white cheddar cheese

For the Buns & Extras:

  • 4 burger buns (brioche, potato, or Kaiser rolls work great)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • Optional: mayonnaise, aioli, or cheese sauce

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Form the Burger Patties

  • Mix ground beef with Worcestershire sauce and steak seasoning.
  • Divide into 4 patties, about ¾-inch thick. Press a slight dimple in the center of each (to prevent puffing).

2. Cook the Onions & Peppers

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add a bit of oil or butter.
  • Add sliced onions and peppers.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes or until soft and lightly caramelized.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

3. Cook the Burger Patties

  • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  • In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of cheese and cover to melt.

4. Toast the Buns

  • Spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast in a pan or on the grill until golden brown.

5. Assemble the Burgers

  1. Spread mayo or cheese sauce on the bottom bun.
  2. Place the cheesy patty on top.
  3. Pile on a generous scoop of sautéed onions and peppers.
  4. Add the top bun and serve hot.

🧀 Optional Cheese Sauce (Quick Version)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¾ cup shredded provolone or cheddar cheese
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Melt butter in a small saucepan.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly whisk in milk; cook until slightly thickened.
  4. Stir in cheese until melted and smooth. Use immediately.
