Buttermilk Sweet Potato Pie

Here’s a classic and comforting Buttermilk Sweet Potato Pie recipe — rich, creamy, and lightly tangy with a Southern twist:


🥧 Buttermilk Sweet Potato Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1½ cups mashed cooked sweet potato (about 2 medium sweet potatoes)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional: a pinch of ground ginger or allspice for extra spice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the mashed sweet potatoes, sugars, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking well.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and any optional spices. Mix until well combined.
  5. Pour the filling into the unbaked pie crust and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the center is just set and a knife inserted near the center comes out mostly clean.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour. Serve at room temperature or chilled.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions:

  • Top with whipped cream or a drizzle of maple syrup
  • Sprinkle with toasted pecans for a crunchy finish
  • Dust lightly with cinnamon or powdered sugar
