Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Here’s a cozy and delicious recipe for Apple Cinnamon Rolls – perfect for breakfast or a comforting dessert!


🍎 Apple Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Apple Filling:

  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Filling:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1½ tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Glaze (optional but recommended):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

🔪 Instructions

1. Make the Dough:

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, egg, egg yolk, and melted butter. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt. Mix until dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a stand mixer with dough hook for 5 minutes).
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Apple Filling:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter.
  2. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.
  3. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples are soft and mixture is thickened. Let cool.

3. Assemble the Rolls:

  1. Roll out dough into a 14×9 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Spread softened butter over the dough.
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  4. Evenly spread cooled apple mixture on top.
  5. Roll up tightly from the long side and slice into 9–12 rolls.

4. Second Rise:

  1. Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes until puffy.

5. Bake:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

6. Glaze:

  1. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Serve warm with coffee, tea, or hot cider!
