If you’re craving that delicious Outback Steakhouse chicken at home, here’s a copycat recipe for Alice Springs Chicken, one of their most popular dishes!

Outback Steakhouse Alice Springs Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup honey mustard dressing (store-bought or homemade)
  • 8 slices of cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms (optional)

For Sautéed Mushrooms (optional):

  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Chicken:

    • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Season the chicken breasts with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and thyme on both sides.
    • Let the chicken rest for a few minutes to allow the seasonings to stick.
  2. Cook the Chicken:

    • Grill Option: Place the chicken on the grill and cook for 6-7 minutes per side, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
    • Oven Option: If you’re baking in the oven, place the seasoned chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  3. Sauté the Mushrooms (Optional):

    • While the chicken is cooking, heat a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until softened. Add minced garlic, sauté for another 1 minute, and then set them aside.
  4. Assemble the Chicken:

    • Once the chicken is cooked, transfer it to a baking dish (if you’re not using a grill) or continue on the grill.
    • Drizzle a generous amount of honey mustard dressing over each piece of chicken.
    • Add the sautéed mushrooms (if using), then layer on the chopped bacon and both cheeses (Monterey Jack and cheddar).
  5. Melt the Cheese:

    • If you’re baking, place the baking dish in the oven for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • If grilling, you can close the lid to help melt the cheese.
  6. Serve:

    • Once the cheese has melted, remove the chicken from the heat and serve immediately with your favorite sides, like baked potatoes, steamed veggies, or a side salad.

Enjoy your homemade Outback-inspired Alice Springs Chicken!

This recipe gives you a similar taste to the one from Outback Steakhouse, complete with tender chicken, smoky bacon, gooey cheese, and the signature honey mustard flavor. Enjoy!
