Mint and Coriander Sauce

Posted on March 5, 2025

Mint and Coriander Sauce is a flavorful, vibrant sauce often served with Indian snacks, kebabs, or grilled dishes. It’s made with fresh herbs, spices, and tangy elements. Here’s a simple recipe for a delicious Mint and Coriander Sauce:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh cilantro (coriander leaves)
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1-2 green chilies (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 small onion (optional)
  • 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice or lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder (roasted if possible)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala (optional but recommended)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or jaggery (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1/4 cup water (or more, depending on desired consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Wash the herbs: Thoroughly wash the cilantro and mint leaves to remove any dirt or grit.

  2. Blend the chutney: In a blender or food processor, combine the cilantro, mint, green chilies, ginger, onion (if using), cumin powder, chaat masala, lemon juice, and salt. Add a little water to help blend everything together smoothly.

  3. Adjust the consistency: Add water a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency. For a thicker chutney, use less water; for a runnier chutney, add more.

  4. Taste and adjust: Taste the chutney and adjust the seasoning. Add sugar or jaggery if you want a slight sweetness to balance the spice, or more lemon juice for tang.

  5. Serve: Transfer the chutney to a bowl. It can be served immediately or chilled for a little while to let the flavors meld.

Green chutney can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. It’s perfect for pairing with pakoras, samosas, grilled meats, or even as a spread for sandwiches and wraps.

Enjoy your flavorful Green Chutney!
