Easy Savory Pancakes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder (optional)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk (you can use buttermilk for more flavor)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or olive oil
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar, parmesan, or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions or chives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dry ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until combined.
  2. Add the wet ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk together until smooth. Add the melted butter (or olive oil) and whisk again to combine.
  3. Mix wet and dry ingredients:

    • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix — a few lumps are okay.
  4. Add cheese and flavorings:

    • Fold in the grated cheese and any optional ingredients, like green onions, chives, or crumbled bacon or sausage.
  5. Cook the pancakes:

    • Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
    • Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve your savory pancakes warm with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of extra cheese, or a drizzle of hot sauce for a little kick!
