Air fryer sausage rolls.

Posted on September 19, 2025

Air Fryer Sausage Rolls are a quick, easy, and delicious snack or meal. With a crispy puff pastry exterior and savory sausage filling, they’re perfect for a lunchbox, party, or as an appetizer. Here’s a simple recipe for making Air Fryer Sausage Rolls:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) sausage meat (or 4-5 sausage links, casings removed)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme or sage (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • A splash of Worcestershire sauce (optional, for extra richness)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:

  • If using sausages: Remove the casings and place the sausage meat into a bowl.
  • Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat (if using). Mix well.
  • Season with salt, pepper, dried thyme/sage, and a splash of Worcestershire sauce if desired. Mix until fully combined.

2. Prepare the Pastry:

  • Roll out your puff pastry sheet on a flat surface. If using store-bought pastry, it should be thawed if frozen.
  • Cut the pastry sheet into two long rectangles (for large sausage rolls) or smaller squares/rectangles (for mini rolls), depending on the size you want.

3. Form the Sausage Rolls:

  • Take a portion of the sausage mixture (about 2-3 tbsp) and place it in the center of the pastry.
  • Roll the pastry around the sausage filling, pressing the edges together to seal. You can wet the edges with a little water to help them stick.
  • If making larger rolls, cut the rolls into individual pieces (about 3-4 inches each).
  • For mini sausage rolls, simply fold and cut smaller portions.

4. Egg Wash & Toppings:

  • Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top of each sausage roll. This will give them a golden, shiny finish as they cook.
  • If desired, sprinkle some sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for extra crunch and visual appeal.

5. Air Fry:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Place the sausage rolls into the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded and have space around them for air circulation. If needed, cook in batches.
  • Cook the sausage rolls for 12-15 minutes at 375°F, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  • You can flip them halfway through to ensure an even golden color.

6. Serve:

  • Once cooked, remove the sausage rolls from the air fryer and let them rest for a couple of minutes.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup, mustard, or even a tangy barbecue sauce.

Tips:

  • Use your favorite sausage: You can experiment with different flavors of sausage (pork, beef, chicken, or even vegetarian options).
  • Spice it up: Add chili flakes, paprika, or grated cheese to the sausage mix for an extra kick.
  • Storage: If you have leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days, or frozen for up to a month. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to bring back the crispiness.
