Posted on July 31, 2025

Here’s a classic Nannie’s Buttermilk Pie recipe — simple, sweet, and rich with old-fashioned Southern charm:

Nannie’s Buttermilk Pie

🥧 Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional for a slight tang)
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar and flour.
  3. Add eggs and beat until smooth.
  4. Stir in buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla, lemon juice (if using), and salt. Mix until fully combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
  6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is set (it may jiggle just slightly).
  7. Allow to cool completely before slicing. Best served at room temperature or chilled.

🍴 Tips:

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg on top before baking.
  • This pie can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or fresh berries if you like.
