Here’s a hearty, savory recipe for Bacon & Cheese Slow Cooked Bread — a cheesy, smoky pull-apart-style bread made right in your slow cooker! Perfect for brunch, game day, or as a comforting side.


🥓🧀 Bacon & Cheese Slow Cooked Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • 6–8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions or chives (optional)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare your slow cooker:
    • Line the bottom and sides with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
    • Preheat on High while you mix the batter.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add flavorings:
    • Stir in the shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, and green onions (if using).
  4. Add wet ingredients:
    • Pour in the buttermilk and melted butter.
    • Stir just until combined — don’t overmix (a slightly lumpy batter is fine).
  5. Slow cook:
    • Pour the batter into the slow cooker and smooth the top.
    • Drape a clean kitchen towel or paper towel over the top (under the lid) to catch condensation.
    • Cook on High for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on your slow cooker size and heat level. Check after 90 minutes — a toothpick should come out clean.
  6. Cool & serve:
    • Carefully lift out the bread using the parchment paper.
    • Let cool slightly before slicing or tearing into warm, cheesy pieces.

📝 Tips & Variations:

  • Add 1/2 tsp garlic powder or smoked paprika for extra flavor.
  • Try mixing in diced jalapeños, cooked sausage, or different cheeses like mozzarella or pepper jack.
  • Serve with soup, chili, or as a breakfast side.
