Say goodbye to flies & bugs naturally!

Posted on July 1, 2025

Bay leaves (Laurus nobilis) are often used as a natural repellent for pests like mosquitoes and cockroaches, though their effectiveness is moderate and best when combined with other methods. Here’s how they work and how to use them:

🦟 Bay Leaves for Mosquitoes

Bay leaves contain eugenol and other aromatic compounds that may repel mosquitoes.

How to use:

  • Crush a few dry bay leaves to release their scent and place them near windows or doorways.
  • Boil bay leaves in water and let the steam fill a room to repel flying insects.
  • Optional: Mix bay leaf essential oil (diluted with a carrier oil) and apply to skin (patch test first!).

Note: For stronger mosquito control, consider combining with citronella, lavender, or eucalyptus oils.

🪳 Bay Leaves for Cockroaches

Cockroaches dislike the strong smell of bay leaves, especially when crushed.

How to use:

  • Place whole or crushed bay leaves in kitchen cabinets, drawers, under the sink, or wherever roaches appear.
  • Replace every 1–2 weeks for best results.

Tip: Use bay leaves alongside cleanliness and sealing food to prevent roach infestations.
