A “hack” to stop ants from entering the kitchen without professional pest control

Posted on June 26, 2025

Here’s a simple, effective DIY “hack” to stop ants from entering your kitchen without needing professional pest control:

🧼 Vinegar Barrier Method (Natural, Cheap, and Fast)

🧪 What You Need:

  • White vinegar

  • Water

  • Spray bottle

  • Paper towels or cloth

🧭 Steps:

  1. Mix Solution: Combine equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

  2. Identify Entry Points: Look for where the ants are entering (along baseboards, windowsills, under cabinets, cracks).

  3. Spray Thoroughly: Spray the vinegar mix directly on:

    • Ant trails

    • Entry points

    • Around sinks, trash bins, and food storage areas

  4. Wipe Clean: Use a cloth or paper towel to wipe up the sprayed area after a few minutes. This removes the ants’ scent trails so others can’t follow.

  5. Repeat Daily for a few days until the ants stop showing up.

🔄 Bonus Hacks to Combine:

  • Cinnamon, coffee grounds, or baby powder: Sprinkle around entry points — ants hate strong smells and powdery barriers.

  • Seal food tightly and wipe surfaces regularly — no crumbs = no motivation for ants.

  • Lemon juice (also disrupts scent trails) can be used in place of vinegar.
